Nelson’s Angelia Thomson was recently awarded the Canadian Federation of University Women’s Nelson and District 2024 Scholarship of $1,000.
“There were so many worthy applicants this year and it was amazing to read all the extraordinary things the young women in this community are doing,” said Cathy Leugner, the scholarship chair and past president for the CFUW Nelson club.
“Reading through Angelia’s impressive application, and hearing about the kind of person she is, we were honoured to award her this scholarship, which is named after Elizabeth Wallach.”
Elizabeth was a teacher-librarian, and the second woman alderman elected to Nelson city council in 1951.
Angelia demonstrated her love of learning, her dedication to community life, and great love of her family and friends. CFUW supports and realizes the potential for all women. We are honoured to help out financially as Angelia is off to the University of British Columbia where she will pursue her education with hopes to do research and teach at various levels. No doubt, the entire community of Nelson looks forward to seeing the great things she will contribute to our world. Congratulations to Angelia!
The CFUW Nelson and District provides bursaries and scholarships to women in the community. If you wish to contribute to the scholarship fund, please email us at nelsoncfuw@gmail.com.
