About Us
Who We Are
We are the Nelson & District Club of The Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW).
CFUW Nelson & District is one of 21 clubs across BC and one of 90+ clubs across Canada. We are affiliated with our parent organizations: CFUW BC Council, CFUW National, and Graduate Women International
At the heart of who we are is a diverse community of women who support one another, share interests and learning activities, advocate on behalf of women, youth and children, participate in volunteerism, and promote education within the community.
Like our club, our National CFUW organization is a self-funded, voluntary, non-partisan organization. Since 1919, our National CFUW has been working to improve the status of women and to promote human rights, public education, social justice and peace. CFUW Nelson & District has shared the National CFUW's mission since 1967.

Our Club's mission is:
-
to promote education and life-long learning to women and girls,
-
to encourage the participation of members in their communities, and,
-
to enhance the status of women and girls by awarding scholarships and bursaries in the community.

Our Club's Activities, Gatherings & Events:

We hosted our SIP Talks on September 24th, 2022 and cohosted a Nelson Municipal All Candidates Forum on October 11, 2022 with the Nelson Teachers Association.

Our regular monthly meetings include presentations from community programs and groups. Our book club meets monthly and recently some members have met for skiing, hiking, and environmental clean-up activities. Pre-covid-19, other fellowship activities included the Out-to-Lunch Club, Bridge Group, Anything-But-Bridge Group, and Hot Chicks (hot springs) Group.
